Whilst on a camping trip, Thomas’ only daughter is killed in a hit-and-run by a logging truck. Obsessed with avenging his daughter’s death Thomas moves to a remote logging town, discards his former identity to become Chris, and awaits the return from jail of his daughter’s killer Luke. Chris is assigned as Luke’s partner in dangerous high tree logging work. Every time Luke climbs, Chris holds his life in his hands. When Chris discovers that Luke has a young daughter, his knowledge of their relationship grows and so does his empathy. Chris is challenged by their shared connection to nature, the love of their daughters and the potential for closure – knowing that for some things to live, others must die.
